Valerie Knight, RN, has been named Gateway Medical Center’s 2008 Employee of the Year. Qualifiers for Employee of the Year nominations include dedication, team spirit and extra efforts.

Valerie was recognized for her exemplary work and for her contributions as a super-user and trainer for the new electronic medical record system being used in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the new Medical Center. She worked extra hours to make herself available to staff for questions and always did so with a smile.

According to Dr. Brad Stancombe, Neonatologist, “Valerie is an outstanding clinical NICU nurse who comes in everyday with a smile and interacts very well with families and other staff. She has been instrumental in converting the unit to computerized charting and has worked many extra hours to do so. Her overall competence and calmness during critical situations in the unit make her a highly valued and indispensable member of our critical care staff.”

Valerie was awarded the honor at Gateway’s Annual Service Awards Banquet on January 29, where she also received a weekend stay at Opryland Hotel. She is a five-year Gateway employee.
