Angioplasty is a procedure that relieves symptoms of coronary artery disease by improving blood flow to your heart by threading a tiny balloon through a blood vessel in the groin or arm. The balloon is then inflated to compress the blockage and stretch the artery open. The procedure takes between one and three hours. In some cases, the individual can return home later the same day while others will require an overnight stay in the hospital.
