Cardiac Catheterization

With the expertise of our cardiologists and the latest cutting-edge digital technology in our Catheterization Lab, we can detect blockages in coronary arteries. This procedure has become a very imporant tool in detecting heart problems, preventing heart attacks — and saving lives. Cardiac catheterization is an imaging test that takes X-rays of the blood vessels that surround the heart. The images help doctors see if an artery is narrowed or clogged. Blockages cause heart disease and heart attacks. Cardiac caths help doctors pinpoint the location of clogged arteries and determine the best way to treat them.

During catheterization, a cardiologist makes a small incision in your groin or arm. A thin plastic tube called a sheath is inserted through the incision. The doctor then guides the catheters through the sheath in your artery. Dye may be injected to help doctors see the arteries more clearly. The procedure takes one to two hours, and most patients go home several hours after the test is completed.
