Diagnostic Imaging

At Gateway Medical Center we pride ourselves in the state-of-the-art technology in our Diagnostic Imaging department. We offer diagnostic radiology (x-ray), CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine (including single emission computerized tomography, or SPECT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and mammography.

Patients visiting Gateway now have access to one of the newest and highest-resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners available: the 3.0T system. The ultra-high-field system enables faster and higher-resolution scans, resulting in superb image quality and potentially more accurate diagnoses. In addition, patients will appreciate its many comfort-related features. Because of the level of detail it provides, the 3.0T can assist radiologists and physicians in the earlier diagnosis of a variety of medical conditions, including brain and nervous system disorders, cardiovascular disease and organ disease. The wide patient opening, fast scan times and accurate scans that reduce the need for rescanning all contribute to a patient-friendly design. An MRI scan uses a powerful magnet in conjunction with radio frequency waves to generate images of your internal organs and structures. It's one of the least invasive tests that can see inside the body. MRI is one of the most useful tools physicians have to make an accurate diagnosis and select an appropriate treatment for their patients. The accuracy and speed of the latest MRI scanners means that you will be done quickly and your doctor will have to run fewer--if any--follow-up scans. And thanks to its advanced design features, your MRI should prove perfectly comfortable.

Our 64-Slice CT Scanners offer the latest in diagnostic imaging technology. This advanced technology allows radiologists to view bones, organs, blood vessels and even the heart in extraordinary detail. This information helps physicians detect and treat life-threatening illnesses at earlier stages, including heart disease, cancer and stroke. And because the new scanners more comfortably accommodate larger patients and offer quick scan times, patients have a more pleasant experience.

Gateway now offers Balloon Kyphoplasty, a minimally invasive treatment option for patients suffering from spinal fractures due to osteoporosis. Balloon Kyphoplasty is designed to correct spinal deformity due to osteoporotic fractures, significantly reducing back pain and improving a patient’s ability to return to daily activities. Gateway also utilizes the Picture Archival Communications System (PACS) which allows physicians to view high-quality digitally captured clinical images while offering the capacity to perform on-screen manipulation regardless of location.

Diagnostic Imaging staff members perform more than 70,000 inpatient and outpatient exams every year. Physician coverage is provided by five board-certified radiologists. Our mammography-screening program is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the American College of Radiology. For more information, call 931-502-1500.
