At Gateway, we are committed to providing our patients with outstanding care. To ensure our patients receive this level of care, we often rely on the medical expertise of hospitalists.
Who Are Hospitalists?
Hospitalists are residency trained, board-certified physicians who specialize in taking care of sick patients who are in the hospital. Our hospitalists are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week and are ready to assume care as soon as a patient is admitted to the hospital.
What Do Hospitalists Do?
Once a hospitalist has been assigned to you, they are available for evaluations, treatments and consultations while also keeping in close contact with your primary care physician. These highly trained physicians focus only on patients needing care within the hospital, making them experts in treating complex medical problems seen regularly in hospitalized patients.
What Are The Benefits?
Often when a patient is hospitalized, the primary care physician is not immediately available due to scheduled office hours or significant patient load. Hospitalists work together with your primary care physician to care for you while you are in the hospital. If you do not have a primary care physician, we will make a referral for your continued care once you are discharged.
What Happens When You Are Seen By a Hospitalist?
• Your primar care physician will have made the decision to use our hospitalist service.
• You may be evaluated or treated either in the emergency department or after being admitted to the hospital directly from a physician's office.
• You will be in the hands of a residency trained, board-certified physician throughout your inpatient stay.
• Every effort will be made to keep the same hospitalist with you during your stay.
• A member of your hospitalists team will be available around the clock to assist with your treatment.
• Once you are ready for discharge, your hospitalist will release you back into the care of your primary care physician, along with all of your recent medical records and other pertinent information.
