Pacemakers

Artifical pacemakers are small electronic devices used to control the rhythm or rate of your heart. They use batteries to send electrical impulses to the heart to help it pump properly. Most pacemakers have a sensing device that turns the signal off when the heartbeat is above a certain level and back on when the heartbeat is too slow. They are inserted under the skin in your upper chest with leads running through a vein to your heart. The procedure normally takes two hours and requires an overnight stay in the hospital.
